Biography
Svandís Dóra Einarsdóttir is an Icelandic actress, director and writer and graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2010 as an actress. Since graduating, she has worked on a wide range of projects, both on stage and on screen. She has participated in numerous productions at the National Theatre of Iceland and with various independent theatre groups as both an actress and a director. Most recently in the play "Apartment 10B" in the National Theatre of Iceland 2025, directed by Baltasar Kormákur and "Til hamingju með að vera mannleg" (Congratulations on Being Human), which premiered on the main stage of the National Theatre in the spring of 2023, directed by Sigríður Soffía Níelsdóttir and is still running.
Svandís' main roles in television include the TV series "Danska konan" (The Danish Woman) 2025/26, directed by Benedikt Erlingsson, starring alongside Danish star actress Trine Dyrholm and "Death of a Horse" produced by Act4 (IS) and Windlight Pictures (DE) - it is part of the NEW8 collaboration and will be premiered in 2026 in numerous European countries, The award winning series "Afturelding" (Balls) for RÚV in 2023. "Útilega" for Sjónvarp Símans in 2024, "FBI: International" for CBS in 2024 and "Ófærð 3" (Trapped 3) for RÚV and Netflix in 2021
Main roles in films include "All Eyes on Me", which premiered at the Reykjavik Film Festival in 2024, "Tár úr sementi" (Tears of Cement), premiering in 2026, "Sumarljós og svo kemur nóttin" (Summer Light and Then Comes the Night), which premiered at RIFF (Reykjavik Film Festival) in 2022, "April Skies" on Amazon in 2022, "Fyrir framan annað fólk" (In Front of Others) 2016 and "Of horses and Men" 2014 which won the Nordic Counsil Film Prize and was the Iceland´s submission for the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film.
Svandís recently finished filming the series "Vanished" Directed by Óskar Þór Axelsson, produced by ZIK ZAK (IS) and Saxonia Media (DE) and is currently writing her first feature film "Reiðin" (Wrath) as an auther, produced by Heather Millard for Compass Films.
Svandís won the Best actress of the year at the Icelandic TV awards 2025 for her role in Balls and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2017 Edda Film Awards for her role in the film "Fyrir framan annað fólk" (In Front of Others). She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the film "April Skies" at the Central Alberta Film Festival in 2023. Additionally, Svandís, along with the ensemble from the play "Til hamingju með að vera mannleg", was nominated for the 2023 Icelandic Theatre Awards, Gríman, as a choreographer."
Svandís has narrated numerous audiobooks for Storytel and received the Storytel Awards for Best Narrator in 2025. She was also the voice of Valka in the popular video game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and has recorded voice work for a wide range of commercials.
